I’ve been with a company for several years now (will omit specifics to maintain anonymity) – and the longer I’m there, the more it feels like a cult.

The company is Disruptive Advertising and is a digital marketing agency from the outside. On the inside, what I see is a lot of hiring b-players and the ceo convincing them he is going to save them by giving them marital, financial and fitness advice. He fancies himself some sort of marketing expert in all realms of life and insists people take his personal development courses which include him giving marital advice and teaching people to meditate. What’s worse is he’s LDS and projects that onto everyone inside the company. Giving twin flame vibes, iykyk.

he’s churned through business partners and executive teams like they’re going out of style. Doesn’t surprise me with how he expects everyone to worship him. He regularly tells everyone that he’s better at their job than them. He tells the company “it’s not about the money. I’ve made my money already. It’s about more than that.” Then manipulates individuals into working incessantly while he buys new homes and vehicles on the regular.

I’ve heard it’s regularly said that if an individual doesn’t participate in his personal development classes, they aren’t a good fit to be at the company.

Even writing this is scary as I fear retaliation.

        Am I in a cult?

This sounds really toxic. Not a psychologist but it kinda sounds obvious he’s a narc/delusions of grandeur.

Can you get out of that job by applying to other jobs? A job is a business transaction. You’re there to do a role and get paid but must receive and give respect. Sounds like your boss is crossing some boundaries.

Protect your mental health at all costs. Hope you get a new amd even better role soon. Btw, don’t leave on bad terms or discuss this with any of your coworkers. Ppl like this tend to hold grudges
