Late 40s, made redundant from a job in tech that i worked in for 7 years. The job market looks horrendous and not sure ill be able to get another job based on my age.
I know age discrimination shouldnt be a thing but i have no doubts that someone younger than me will always be chosen over someone my age.
How do i handle this in interviews? Should i accept it and settle for a career in something else?
Ah man this sucks!!! Maybe not mention your age anywhere? Employers aren’t allowed to ask you your age in the UK. You’ve worked hard, don’t change careers unless you don’t like it. Fingers crossed you’ll find another job soon
If you interview with bigger companies, they are unlikely to care as they have high turnover of people. Smaller ones probably will because they feel the impact of employees leaving, and filling in the vacancy, espesh if you’re senior in role.
Try to interview with a mix of employers in size and report back! Good luck!!!!
Confront it head on in interviews. Say that youve gota ton of experience and what value you can bring and you plan on staying in your rile long term, i.e. you wouldve stayed in your last role had it not been for your redundancy.
Shows youre committed.
